Volunteers will work with biologists from Trout Unlimited and Wyoming Game and Fish to install BDAs on Mowberg Creek in the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest.
If you own waders, we would suggest bringing them! If you need to borrow a pair, please reach out to us at least one week prior to the event (please include your shoe size in your request) so we can source them from one of our partners. You also have the option to “wet-wade”, AKA: just walk through the water and get wet. This option will almost certainly be cooler if you overheat easily. If you choose wet-wading, please wear closed-toe shoes with good traction so you can safely navigate the water.
We will be meeting at the USFS Work Center in Fox Park, Wyoming. We will depart from the meeting place to the work site as a group after discussing the plans and making sure everyone has what they need for the day. Please make your best effort to arrive in a timely manner so that our departure is not delayed unnecessarily.
Transport to the site will involve a combination of driving and walking (approximately 1 mile each way), so be prepared to take a scenic stroll through the meadows. The site is fairly exposed, so make sure to wear your preferred sun protection (hat, sunscreen, sun hoodie, sunglasses, or any combination of these).
We will be providing lunch and water refills, but we ask that you bring a daypack to carry your lunch and enough water bottles to carry your drinking water for the day.
Tools and instructions for BDA construction will be provided by COG, Trout Unlimited, and Wyoming Game and Fish. No prior experience is necessary, and this event is suitable for all ages.
This is an eligible event for Wyoming Naturalist volunteer hours.
